Over the weekend I downloaded pcsx2 from. I was really excited to replay Dragonball Z Budokai 3 (from.iso). I also downloaded the Scarlet.Crush driver package to use my PS3 controller. After the initial elation, though, I was disappointed. The game would run fine for a while, then it would lag and crawl for 10-15 seconds, then it would return to normal. It wasn't just a framerate drop, but the game actually ran slower, like characters and sound effects would slow down.
I shrugged it off, thinking it was the price I pay for the convenience of playing a on my laptop and not having to drag my old PS2 around. However, over the next couple of days, it steadily got worse. Now, the game runs slow almost all the time, has periods where it lags even worse, then runs really fast during cut scenes as if it's trying to catch up (unless that is the normal speed and I've just gotten used to the lag).Is this a settings issue? I left all the settings default because I am not familiar with emulation and I didn't want to mess anything up. I looked up some other threads for help, such as and, which both suggest it may be a CPU issue. However, I don't know enough to diagnose or fix it on my own. My laptop might not be a gaming rig, but it's not a bad machine.TL;DR: New user, default settings, DBZ Budokai 3 running slowly.Required info:.

All settings default. Game: Dragonball Z Budokai 3 (from.iso)Thanks for being such a helpful community!. It wasn't just a framerate drop, but the game actually ran slower, like characters and sound effects would slow downThese things are one and the same on PCSX2. Unfortunately most games of the PS2 era have their game speed tied to the frame rate.

So if you drop frame rate, you also drop game speed and sound. If you can't keep a consistent framerate and you want to fix the sound slowdown issue though, you can do so by switching your sound plugin settings from TimeStretch to Async Mix.I looked up some other threads for help, such as this one and this one, which both suggest it may be a CPU issue. However, I don't know enough to diagnose or fix it on my own. My laptop might not be a gaming rig, but it's not a bad machine. What you're describing very much sounds like an issue where your computer (and yes, more than likely your CPU) can't keep up with the burden of having to emulate this game.

Here's some things to check though:Is your laptop plugged into A/C power? If you're on battery power, your computer will very heavily throttle itself to conserve battery, and yes it will get worse over time.Is your power plan set to High Performance? Also, which GSdx plugin did you choose? I'm guessing since you said you didn't touch any settings, you didn't change your GSdx plugin. You should definitely change it to the highest instruction set your CPU supports, which should be AVX2.Again, I know you said all PCSX2 settings were default but I want to double check: You didn't change anything at all? Not even video settings like resolution and such? Also I would follow 's advice and download the latest dev build instead of using 1.4.0.Also I would recommend changing your video renderer from Direct3D9 to Direct3D11. Thanks for the in-depth reply! These things are one and the same on PCSX2. Unfortunately most games of the PS2 era have their game speed tied to the frame rate.
So if you drop frame rate, you also drop game speed and sound.Ah, I didn't realize. I assumed it was like PC games, where the game would run at a certain speed, but a hit to thr framerate just made things choppy. Is your laptop plugged into A/C power? Is your power plan set to High Performance?Yes to both. Also, which GSdx plugin did you choose? Here are my video plugin settings:. I didn't see any of the ones you mentioned. The only options I have are OpenGL, Direct3D9, and Direct3D11 with hardware and software options. Am I looking in the wrong place?Edit: I found what you were talking about. The default plugin is AVX2.Again, I know you said all PCSX2 settings were default but I want to double check: You didn't change anything at all? Not even video settings like resolution and such?I intentionally didn't touch anything.

I learned from modding Skyrim to go slow. I wanted to make a stable build before I started trying to break it with more intensive settings. Make it work at the default resolution, then try to make it 1080p.:)Here are my emulation settings:. Sorry for the late reply, been busy.In the Speedhacks window, turn on MTVU. That should help.

Also in the Video Plugin Settings, switch from D3D9 to either D3D11 or OGL to see if that helps. If neither of those do the trick, you might need to resort to the cycle hacks (either EE Cyclerate or VU Cycle Stealing) to see if those help. I don't usually recommend them because they can force the game's engine to drop frames and such but it's worth a shot if nothing else works.Let me know how it goes!.
